Taking Action

I have to start this post by confessing that I have a hard time taking "action" myself. The prime example is this blog which I started months ago. My objective was to post daily, alongside my radio show. We an see how well that turned out!

I'm not one to give up easy though. I still expect much of myself in this area. I have recently learned a trick to help change the way I think about myself. I once was a procrastinator because I had given myself permission to be one. I have freely told others (and myself) that "I am a procrastinator". I have worn the title as a badge of honor; As if I belong to an exclusive club...can you imagine such thing? I will no longer be a procrastinator. I may even ban the word from my own vocabulary! I am now a person that gets things done on time, on schedule, as planned! It may take a few weeks to break into my new pattern of thinking, but I will no longer allow myself (or others) to say I am a procrastinator. I will no longer allow myself to think such ideas about myself, because we are what we think!

I recently learned something else about the way I think ... our minds are attracted to what ever it is that we focus on, good or bad, positive or negative! Our minds do not make the difference. So, when I have thought "I don't want to be late", I have usually ended up being late! I could never understand why. I now understand that because I was focusing on being late (even though I didn't want to be late) I caused myself to be late. I have learned to change the way I think completely! I now think "I am on time; I am a person who is prompt". This change will help me to focus on being "on time", rather than not wanting to "be late". You should try it yourself; let me know how it works out for you!

A New Year

As many of you know, we had our 4th baby, Laurel on December 5th. Between the holidays, and Laurel's arrival, it has been a challenge to set time aside for the blog. To Understand the Laws of Success and Prosperity

There are several Universal Laws that if applied will bring you much success and prosperity. These laws work for everyone; kind of like Spiritual Physics they are unbreakable and unchangeable. The Creator of the Universe, God, included them right along with gravity and a host of other fundamental laws that exist in our Universe. If you work the equation like a mathematical exercise, the outcome is always the same: 1 + 1 = 2; a ton of feathers weighs the same as a ton of bricks; water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius, 32 degrees Fahrenheit. If you vary in the equation, you will not get the desired results. You cannot get a solid ice cube if the temperature of some of the molecules of the water in the ice tray is 33 degrees Fahrenheit. These Laws of Spiritual Physics are unchangeable, which is why sometimes “bad” people are successful. Some people do cheat, lie and steal their way to success, but the Laws eventually correct the imbalance. We just don’t know it, or see it happen all the time. You can’t cheat science, and you can’t cheat God. The Universal Law that corrects everything by the way, is that “you reap what you sow”, what goes around comes around, or the Law of Karma.

I started my new radio program by taking the word LIFE and breaking it down into an acronym. I find that acronyms can be a good teaching/learning tool. I think we should have an understanding of what LIFE is before we try to be successful at it. Starting with the first letter, L, we define LIFE.

L = Love

The L in LIFE represents LOVE. God created us out of LOVE. You’ve heard the saying “God is Love”. We grow our families and communities out of LOVE. LOVE is the utmost foundation of LIFE, in a Spiritual and Emotional sense. If we apply LOVE to the Law of Success, it makes sense that if you want to be successful, you need to LOVE. What I am using as the foundation for my radio show is that we must live by The Golden Rule, Do unto Others as You Would Have Done unto You. Basically you treat others with the respect you expect to be treated with. There is a caveat to this rule, and Law of Success. You must apply this Law in every instance of interaction with another human being. That means that even when someone has mistreated you, you still treat them how you expect to be treated. It is harder to do than it sounds! How easy it has become for us to mouth off to someone when we feel we have been slighted or wronged. The examples I used on the radio show, is when someone “steals” a parking place from you. You might have been sitting, waiting to take a spot soon to be vacated for several minutes, and someone else sneaks up and takes it. Even in such a trivial situation, we need to be respectful and realize that by sincerely and honestly employing The Golden Rule in our every interaction (which includes our thoughts, more on that later) we will be able to effectively become successful and prosperous. There is a reason it is called The GOLDen Rule! If you live by this Law of the Universe, success and prosperity will be yours.

Can you be successful without LOVE? You can be financially successful; you can be successful in your career, and in your social status. But you can’t be emotionally successful, nor can you be spiritually successful without LOVE. If you want to be completely and wholly successful, which requires a balance of several things, you must have LOVE. Does LOVE come first? Yes, it should. Now keep in mind we are not talking about romantic LOVE, but rather the LOVE that is the bond of humanity.

I = Imagination

The I in LIFE represents IMAGINATION. To be successful you have to IMAGINE what you want first. Author Steven Covey said it best, “Begin with the end in mind”. His explanation is a bit more intricate. But part of it is that if you IMAGINE what you want long enough, and detailed enough, you can bring the opportunities to you that will allow you to manifest what you have IMAGINED. Everything man has made started with IMAGINATION. Even God had to IMAGINE what He wanted to create before He created it. The Universe was in His mind’s eye before it became reality. We are even created in His IMAGE. As adults we tend to shy away from using our IMAGINATION. It’s as if exercising our IMAGINATION is sub par. Artists and engineers use IMAGINATION all the time in their business. Architects, Fashion Designers, Decorators, the list goes on. These are IMAGINATIONS at work. We need to recognize that we can use our IMAGINATION for personal growth and success!

Remember the IMAGINATION we had as children that we used to plan our lives. Almost every child dreams of grandeur, like being an astronaut, or becoming the President of The United States of America. One thing I IMAGINED was to be a Truck Driver. I remember drawing Peter Built Semis. One of our class field trips was to a truck manufacturer. We got to see how the trucks were built from ground up. It was exciting, and I began to IMAGINE that I would drive trucks for a living, and get paid to travel around the Country. Well, my IMAGINATION didn’t manifest a career out of driving trucks, but I can honestly say it has played a part in my life as I have driven across the Country several times driving 20 foot moving vans from radio gig to radio gig, family in tow! And speaking of my radio career, when I was little my dad was a CB radio hobbyist. He had several kinds, some that had upper band and lower band, some that were powerful enough to reach around the world and he always had one installed in whatever vehicle he drove. Looking back, I’d consider it to be the “Party Line” cell phone of his time because he and my uncle always chatted with each other on the CB. Anyway, I think that is what inspired my desire to work in radio. It was the thought of talking to hundreds if not thousands of people at one time; having a captive audience listening to what I was talking about! I began to IMAGINE I was a deejay playing records. Now as a result of that IMAGINATION I am working in radio! So, it is our IMAGINATION that is the driving force that takes us where we want to go in LIFE. Why is it that we do not all reach our IMAGINED destination? It has to do with FEAR, and I will explain that next.

F = Fear

The F in LIFE represents FEAR. Without FEAR there is no reward for success. FEAR is essential in LIFE in order for there to be great obstacles to overcome. Think about it. If there was nothing to be afraid of, would that sense of accomplishment be the same? But most people do not recognize FEAR as a catapult to greater things. FEAR is used as an excuse to be normal, mediocre. If you want to be successful, you have to be willing to take chances. Taking chances is risky. Where there is risk, there is FEAR. You have to step outside your comfort zone. Reach beyond your normal boundaries. You have to change the way you think. FEAR is what should drive you to be successful. Our FEAR of what is outside the comfort zone is what keeps us in it. We are afraid of the discomfort and that is usually why we do not reach our IMAGINATION destination. To be what we IMAGINE usually is met with obstacles we are not prepared to overcome simply because of our FEAR of being uncomfortable. You have to be courageous and brave! Success is not for the faint of heart. Being successful requires a commitment to push the envelope when you are comfortable. After a while the discomfort becomes familiar and is no longer uncomfortable. It becomes the norm and a new wider boundary is established. Take the example of when you first learned how to ride a bike. There was FEAR in falling down and getting hurt. Not only getting hurt, but there is FEAR in the embarrassment of falling down. Once you stepped outside the comfort zone and faced the FEAR of falling down, and decided you will keep falling until you get it, embarrassed or not, is usually when you succeeded and were able to ride without falling down. Once the boundary was moved, you became comfortable and now you had a new, broader boundary to challenge. Next you wanted to start doing stunts! Popping wheelies, riding without hands, or maybe you decided to try the unicycle!

Probably the biggest FEAR we have to overcome to be successful is that of failure. We are afraid to fail. Failing has practically become a sin in our society. But if there is no failure, how can there be success? I’m sure you know that Thomas Edison failed hundreds of times in his experiments to make a light bulb. Hundreds! But he was not afraid of failing. He knew that each failure was one closer to success! He said that each failure showed him what wouldn’t work. And as long as you learn from the failure, and don’t repeat it, the failure then becomes part of the success. Use your FEAR to propel you to success!

E = Existentialism

The E in Life represents EXISTENTIALISM. I believe that God has given us Free Will. We are free to choose our own path in LIFE, and find truth for ourselves. EXISTENTIALISM is a modern philosophy about LIFE. MSN Encarta explains the major themes in this philosophy to be: our concrete existence, subjectivity, individual freedom and choice. Plants and Animals have fixed nature, where as humans have the ability to choose the direction of his/her existence. With the freedom of choice that God has given us, we are also given great responsibility and we must accept the consequences of our choices. If one chooses not to decide, a choice has still been made. The choices we make cause us to have individual experiences that are different than anyone else’s. There may be similarities, but each of us lives a different and separate life from one another. The EXISTENTIALIST belief is that one’s own personal experience and acting on one's own convictions are essential in arriving at the truth.

Many atheists embrace EXISTENTIALISM because they choose to not believe in God. However, the philosophy has deep roots in Christianity and can be clearly found in the Bible. God asks us to seek the truth for ourselves, Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9 both say to “seek and ye shall find, knock and it will be opened...”. 2nd Timothy 2:15 states to “Study to show thyself approved unto God…”. We can apply Joshua 24:15 to ourselves as well, as he says “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve”. God has clearly given us free will. Free Will is not limited to Christians, or those who believe in him, but all humanity. And that is the basis for EXISTENTIALISM. In LIFE we have the choice of which path we will take, whether we will believe or not, we have the choice of whether we will be moral, or not. We have the choice to live by The Golden Rule, a Universal Law of Prosperity. What is your choice?
